Bamboo Charcoal- Nature's Water Filter

Bamboo Charcoal is a natural and inexpensive water filtration that turns tap water into cleaner, tastier and safer drinking water. The use of Bamboo Charcoal adds minerals like magnesium and potassium to our daily drinking water. Magnesium increases energy, calms nerves and anxiety, relieves muscle aches and spasms along with many other benefits. The potassium from the Bamboo Charcoal can help lower high blood pressure, enhance muscle strength and electrolytic functions along with other benefits.

What does bamboo charcoal remove from tap water?

Bamboo charcoal adsorbs tap water impurities as they attach to the porous surface area within the bamboo charcoal. Tests indicate that bamboo charcoal removes chlorine, chloride, phosphorus, ammonia, toluene (alcohol), nitrogen, chloramine (ammonia and chlorine compound added to water to kill pathogens), and even toxins like pesticides that can seep into tap water. Bamboo charcoal adsorbs solids and gases, but not pathogens, so we don't recommend relying on bamboo charcoal to filter creek water while hiking.

How long does bamboo charcoal last?

Everyone has different quality tap water, so we recommend that you replace your bamboo charcoal every 4 weeks. If there is a lot of chloramine in your water, you will taste a difference when the bamboo charcoal has stopped adsorbing the gas. However, many toxins in tap water do not have a notable flavor, so we suggest replacing the pieces every 4 weeks to insure properly filtered tap water.

What is the difference between binchotan and bamboo charcoal?

Both bamboo charcoal and binchotan work very well (if carbonized at 800 degrees Celsius) to remove impurities from tap water. However, we prefer bamboo for our charcoal, because it is a more sustainable material. Bamboo grows much faster than trees.

Our Bamboo Charcoal is made from bamboo that is already a waste product. Bamboo must be regularly culled in the Japanese countryside to preserve indigenous forests. However, binchotan is made from the ubame oak tree, which has been decreasing in recent years.
